It's not the coolest item in a golf bag, but, at times, this golf gift is the only hope of saving a golf ball: Golf Ball Retriever.  A golf ball retriever is a great gift for new golfers or for those of us who have to hunt for lost golf balls.  The prices of some golf balls have increased to the point that it is worth taking all of your allotted time to recover a lost golf ball.  I prefer to keep my distance from snakes while searching for stray shots and gladly use my retriever on creek banks and in high weeds.  I have also used it to recover golf balls from muddy areas—keeping my shoes clean instead of ending up with mud-caked spikes.  This device does not need to have a lot of bells and whistles.  If it looks like you could use it to snag a golf ball off of the side of a bank, it will be a satisfactory choice.  If you like extras, that’s fine, too.
