Women’s Golf Diary: My Introduction to Golf

Today, I am continuing to answer the questions from our golfoutloud.com’s Women’s Golf Diary.  The diary is a group of questions we ask lady golfers and I am answering them one at a time for the benefit of elaboration.  The journal entry for today is:

I was introduced to golf by my dad when I was 13 years old.  I remember receiving my first set of golf clubs at that age and that’s when I actually began trying to learn how to swing them in our front yard.  In 2009 I posted the blog below entitled, “Hot Dogs and Hot Wheels.”  It describes my first impressions of the golf course.

Do you remember how you were introduced to golf?  I remember loving my trips to the golf course so much that I would pass on riding bikes or playing with my friends to go golfing with my dad.  What was the draw for a young girl with better things to do?  Well, driving the golf cart, of course!  I knew if I remained quiet while my dad and his friends were hitting the ball, I’d be rewarded with the opportunity to drive the golf cart.  Oh, the power of my hands on the steering wheel and my foot on the gas.  Accelerating up to speeds of two miles per hour was exhilarating!  The fact that my dad’s foot was hovering over the brake did not lessen my excitement.  These early golf outings always ended with a hot dog from the clubhouse.  The combination of hot wheels and hot dogs proved life could be so good.  That’s when the seed was planted for my growing golf affection.
