Women’s Golf Outing Washout
This fall I have a regularly scheduled golf outing with a group of ladies who enjoy playing golf. The group consists of golfers from beginners to more experienced players. Rain was predicted for our outing, but the forecast noted a break in the precipitation around our tee time. We met at the course and I was planning to play even though a little rain might sneak into our outing. I have played golf in some challenging conditions: heat and humidity, just after a frost warning on a cold windy day and even in the snow. Here are a couple of my weather rules: no golfing when it is over 100°F or below 50°F, unless I am desperate to get outside and play. The second rule is no golfing while it is raining. I have indeed been caught in the rain on the golf course, but I do not start an outing when I know it is going to rain. I do not enjoy playing in the rain, especially if it means getting cold. This outing, however, was going to be different because I was very enthusiastic to play with this group. As everyone arrived, we greeted one another, paid our green fees, loaded our carts and down came the rain. It poured and I was soaked. Keep in mind that I had three waterproof jackets and a hat; not only did I get soaked, so did my golf clubs and golf bag.
Did I mention that I do not play golf in the rain, especially if it means I am going to get cold? Regardless of my enthusiasm, the women’s golf outing was a washout. By the time I returned home wet and cold, I had vowed to strictly adhere to my weather rules hence forth!
